IELTS Curriculum

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is designed to assess the language proficiency of people who want to study, work, or migrate to countries where English is the primary language. The test measures abilities in listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

IELTS Test Format

There are two versions:

  1. IELTS Academic: For people applying for higher education or professional registration.
  2. IELTS General Training: For those going to English-speaking countries for secondary education, work experience, or training programs. It is also a requirement for migration to countries like Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the UK.

Sections of IELTS:

  • 1. Listening (30 minutes)
    • 4 recorded monologues and conversations.
    • You answer 40 questions in total.
  • 2. Reading (60 minutes)
    • Academic or General Training texts based on your test type.
    • 40 questions that test reading comprehension, including matching headings, true/false, and multiple-choice questions.
  • 3. Writing (60 minutes)   Academic:
    • Task 1: Describe visual information (graphs, charts, etc.).
    • Task 2: Essay writing. total.
      General Training:
    • Task 1: Write a letter (formal or informal).
    • Task 2: Essay writing. total.
  • 4. Speaking (11–14 minutes)
    • A face-to-face interview with an examiner.
    • Part 1: General questions about yourself.
    • Part 2: You talk about a specific topic for 1-2 minutes.
    • Part 3: Discussion on more abstract topics related to the Part 2 topic.

Scoring:

The IELTS test is scored on a 9-band scale. Each section (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking) receives an individual score, which is then averaged to produce an overall band score.
